While Spotify dominates music streaming, its open-source project Backstage has quietly revolutionized how companies build internal developer portals. However, Israeli startup Port is challenging this space with a proprietary solution that’s now expanding into AI agent management—and investors are taking notice in a major way.

Port announced a substantial $100 million Series C funding round on Thursday, led by General Atlantic with participation from Accel, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Team8. This investment values the company at $800 million and brings its total funding to $158 million, following a $35 million Series B just months earlier in May.

Beyond Developer Portals: Managing the AI Agent Ecosystem

Founded in 2022, Port has already secured impressive customers including GitHub, British Telecom, and LG. The company began by offering a polished alternative to Spotify’s Backstage—providing organizations with streamlined developer tool cataloging and visualization capabilities. But Port’s latest evolution addresses a growing challenge in the developer world: the proliferation of AI agents.

According to Port co-founder and CEO Zohar Einy, developers are rapidly moving beyond simply using AI for code generation. They’re building specialized agents to handle complex tasks like incident resolution, security management, and release coordination. However, this explosion of AI agents has created what Einy describes as ‘chaos’—with no central system to discover, manage, or standardize these powerful tools.

Port’s Comprehensive Agent Management Solution

Port’s platform extends well beyond basic cataloging to provide orchestration capabilities that bring structure to this emerging ecosystem. The solution includes performance measurement tools and configurable human approval workflows to maintain appropriate oversight.

A standout feature called ‘context lake’ allows organizations to define data sources, context memory, and guardrails for their AI agents. As Einy explains, this is essentially ‘where you manage what agents need to know to do their job safely and correctly.’ This addresses critical concerns about agent access to sensitive systems and data.

The platform supports both existing agents created with other tools and enables the development of new agents directly within Port. Additionally, the company offers pre-built agents for common tasks like helpdesk ticket resolution and provisioning management.
