Retail AI training data. Imagery you are cleared to train on.

Visual search, catalog enrichment, recommendations, and shopping assistants all learn from product imagery and listings, and most of what is easy to collect comes with rights you do not hold. eeko sources retail AI training data from consenting photographers and brands, has category specialists label attributes and relevance to your taxonomy, and delivers each item with its licence, release, and provenance record attached.

What is retail AI training data?

Retail AI training data is the licensed and labeled material behind models that recognize products, enrich catalogs, extract attributes, rank search results, recommend, try on, and answer shoppers. It includes studio and lifestyle photography with training permission and model releases, attribute labels such as material, fit, color, and compatibility, query-to-product relevance grades, product descriptions written to a brand standard, and graded assistant conversations about sizing, compatibility, and returns.

The hard part is not volume. The internet is full of product photos, and almost none of them can legally train a commercial model: the photographer owns the image, the person wearing the garment never signed a release, and the brand owns the styling. The other hard part is accuracy. A wrong fabric label becomes a return, a mis-ranked query becomes a lost sale, and an AI-generated product shot that slipped into the training set teaches the model what products look like when nobody made them.

eeko builds customer-facing systems for retailers through its enterprise AI agents work, and the data practice supplies what those systems learn from. It is part of the eeko training data practice: each item passes the verification pipeline with a human-origin check, a licence and release record, and a signed provenance record, and every delivery ends with a receipt your legal and brand teams can file.

Three ways visual search training data goes wrong.

Each one is a data problem with a data fix, and none of them is solved by scraping harder.

Rights you do not hold

Scraped product and model photos belong to someone else. Every image we deliver carries training permission, licence terms, and, where a person is pictured, a model release, bound to the item itself and listed on the receipt.

Attributes that are nearly right

Nearly right is a return. Merchandisers and stylists label to your taxonomy with the guideline piloted first, agreement measured, and disputed labels sent to a second specialist.

Generated images in the mix

Each image is fingerprinted on intake and screened for generator signatures and content credentials. Your spec says whether generated images are dropped or kept, labeled as such.

Six kinds of ecommerce training data, built to your specification.

You bring the category and the task. We write the spec and deliver a pilot batch before any volume commitment.

An ecommerce product image dataset with the releases attached.

Three kinds of imagery we deliver, each with its rights record on the item.

Studio product image · 800 × 1000
Studio — clean backdrop shots with training permission from the photographer.
Lifestyle image · 800 × 1000
Lifestyle — people in frame, with a model release and consent recorded on the item.
Fabric detail image · 800 × 1000
Detail — texture, stitching, and material shots for attribute and try-on models.

Product attribute labeling by people who have merchandised the category.

Assignments follow the category and the task, not a general labeling pool.

Attribute labeling image · 1200 × 900
Fit, fabric, and compatibility labeled by someone who has had to explain a return.

Experts and the data types they produce

  • Product photographers — licensed studio and lifestyle imagery shot to your brief.
  • Merchandisers and fashion stylists — attribute labels, style tags, and compatibility judgments.
  • Search relevance judges — query-to-product grades under tuned guidelines.
  • Copywriters — descriptions, comparisons, and assistant conversations in your brand voice.
  • Translators — localized product text, with a second linguist checking terminology.

Data types: product images, lifestyle photography, catalog text, structured attributes, relevance judgments, conversations, and short video. Every label records its author and reviewer; every image records its licence, release status, and origin check.

From category to delivered dataset.

Fixed scope and fixed price once the specification is agreed. A pilot batch before any volume order, every time.

STEP 01
Brief
Tell us the category, the task, and the imagery or labels you cannot get cleanly. A data lead answers inside one business day with questions and a sourcing outline.
STEP 02
Spec
A written specification: image brief, taxonomy, relevance scale, release requirements, review depth, formats, and licence. Priced before any shoot or labeling starts.
STEP 03
Pilot
A small batch sourced, screened, and labeled by matched specialists, then scored by your merchandisers. The guideline is tightened on what surfaces.
STEP 04
Volume
Full production with second-specialist review, verification, signed provenance, and a receipt. Standing orders add each new season and category as your assortment turns over.

Retail AI training data questions.

What is retail AI training data?

Retail AI training data is the licensed and labeled material used to train and evaluate models that recognize products, enrich catalogs, rank search results, make recommendations, or talk to shoppers. It includes product and lifestyle photography with training permission and model releases, attribute labels applied to a taxonomy, query-to-product relevance grades, product descriptions written to a brand standard, and graded assistant conversations. What makes it usable commercially is the record on each item: who owns it, who is pictured and whether they consented, whether a human made it, and what the licence allows.

Are your product images legally cleared for AI training?

Yes, and the paperwork travels with the file. Every image in the eeko catalogue records its training permission and licence terms, and any photograph with an identifiable person in it is released for training only when that person's consent and a model release are on file. Licensed image deliveries carry a forensic mark that identifies the delivery, and the signed receipt names each image by identifier and hash. Have your counsel confirm that the licence scope matches the product you are building, and we supply the terms in a form they can read quickly.

Can you label product attributes to our own taxonomy?

Yes. We run your taxonomy on a small pilot batch before any volume work, which is where the ambiguous categories and edge cases show up: is a cardigan knitwear or outerwear, which shade still counts as navy. The guideline is tightened on what the pilot surfaces, and then category specialists label to it. Every label records its author and reviewer, disagreements go to a second specialist, and agreement rates are reported with the delivery so you can see how consistent the labels are.

How do you deal with AI-generated product images?

Each image is fingerprinted when it enters our pipeline and screened for signs of machine generation, including generator signatures in embedded metadata, IPTC digital source type fields, and C2PA content credentials. Every item records whether a human made it, a human made it with AI assistance, or a generator made it. Your specification decides what happens next: exclude generated images entirely, or keep them with their label so your model learns the difference on purpose rather than by accident.

What formats does retail training data ship in?

Images with their annotations ship in COCO format or as WebDataset shards for large sets, attributes and relevance judgments as CSV, JSON Lines, or Parquet, and localized text in your catalog schema. Croissant metadata describes the whole dataset for your data catalog. Every delivery includes per-item provenance records and a signed receipt naming each item by identifier and hash. Standing orders deliver new categories and seasons on a regular cadence, and approved buyers can take deliveries programmatically.

How is retail and ecommerce training data priced?

By the type of content, the licence scope, the labeling depth, the review depth, and the volume. Exclusive lifestyle imagery with model releases costs more than non-exclusive studio shots, and labeling a dozen attributes costs more than one category tag. Relevance judgments are priced per query-product pair at the agreed scale. Volume commitments and standing orders reduce the per-item price. We quote once the specification is written, and every quote is fixed scope and fixed price.

Tell us what your model cannot see yet.

Send the category, the task, and the imagery or labels you cannot get cleanly. A data lead answers inside one business day with questions, a sourcing outline, and a pilot proposal. No deck. A ranked list.
